32 colours are available, all of which can be mixed to create an endless palette of colours and used for more than one application. All shades cover 100% of grey and can lighten hair by up to 2 shades.
Naturtint hair colour products are manufactured to the very highest international standards and against animal testing.
Contains phenylenediamines and hydrogen peroxide. A skin test should always be carried out 48 hours before the use of any hair dye, even if you have used it before. If you experience any reaction to the test, you should not use the product. We strongly recommend carrying out a strand test at the same time, to assess the selected tone and determine how long the colour needs to develop, for example to cover grey successfully. Q: Is Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant going to damage my hair?
A: No, Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant is not only ammonia and resorcinol free but is also enriched with vegetable ingredients designed for restructuring and protection. Many customers comment on the improvement of their hair condition upon using Naturtint.
Q: Can I colour my current dark tone to a lighter one with Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant? A: Although it is hard to lighten very dark shades, it is possible to lighten most natural colours by up to 2 shades.
Q: Is Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant a new colorant?
A: No, Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant is a top quality colorant which has been successfully sold across Europe since 1984.
Q: How long does it take to colour my hair with Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant?
A: It simply takes 20-40 minutes once the colour has been mixed and applied.
Q: Is Naturtint tested on animals and is it environmentally friendly?
A: No, Naturtint is not tested on animals and is manufactured to the very highest, international (GMP) standards of practice.
Q: Can Naturtint be used if the customer has suffered severe allergic reactions to other hair colour in the past?
A: Allergic reactions vary and a skin sensitivity test must be carried out at least 48 hours before application. Naturtint Permanent Hair colorant has been dermatologically tested but in rare cases, reactions can occur. If a customer has ever experienced swelling, blistering and/or burning after using a hair colorant, then it is likely that they are allergic to PPD's and a skin test should demonstrate this - if so then the product must not be applied. In these cases, we recommend the use of Naturtint Reflex Non-Permanent Colour Rinses, provided a skin test is carried out before use. A skin test is an important precaution before the use of any hair dye but users should be aware that even if a sensitivity test has been carried out, an allergic reaction may still be experienced when the hair is coloured. The allergy alert test is not a guarantee of avoiding future allergic reactions. Medical advice should be sought in the case of any doubts.
Q: What are PPD's?
A: They are p-phenylenediamines found in ALL permanent and some semi permanent hair colorants with the exclusion of certain hennas. They add colour to the hair but are severe skin irritants and in rare cases can provoke severe or extreme reactions. A PPD reaction would typically result in skin swelling, burning and blistering in the region where they are applied. Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant contains minimum levels of PPD whilst Naturtint Reflex Non-Permanent Colour Rinse is free of PPDs. People allergic to PPD or those simply looking to avoid it should also be mindful that PPD has a number of alternatives that carry the same warnings and risk of allergy, such as toluene-2, 5-diamino sulphate and 2-dihydroxyethylamino or derivatives of PPD such as PPD salts and sulphates like N-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine.
Q: Can Naturtint be used by cancer sufferers?
A: We have had excellent feedback from customers who have used Naturtint Reflex after their chemotherapy has finished. Significantly, Naturtint Reflex is free from peroxide and PPD as well as ammonia, resorcinol and parabens. We do strongly recommend any such customers seek medical approval before use. Some months after chemotherapy treatment is completed, many customers move on to Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant but we strongly recommend that the customer again seeks medical approval as to suitability.
Q: Can you use Naturtint whilst pregnant?
A: Many ladies continue to dye their hair during pregnancy and it is a very personal decision to make. Naturtint provides choice. Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant is free of two key chemicals - ammonia and resorcinol but Naturtint Reflex Non-Permanent Colour Rinse contains no ammonia, resorcinol, peroxide or PPD. Q: Can Naturtint be used on other parts of the body? A: Naturtint is not designed for facial or body hair and should not be used on eyebrows or eyelashes.
Q: Can Naturtint be used on top of previously coloured hair?
A: Most customers have used another colorant previous to trying Naturtint and we suggest wearing that colour for 4-6 weeks before applying Naturtint. We always recommend a strand test before use to ensure the chosen colour brings the desired result. Our helpline can then help if any uncertainties arise.
Q: Will Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant really cover Grey Hair?
A: Yes, Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant covers all normal grey hair from the very first application. If your hair is stubborn and resistant to colour, you should leave the colour to develop for the full 40 minutes.
Q: Can Naturtint be mixed?
A: Yes, many customers mix colours – please see the Colour Guidance & Mixing tab for advice.
Colour Guidance & Mixing
Most of the Naturtint shades are given a code consisting of a number and then a letter. The number tells you how light or dark a shade is, with 1 being the darkest and 10 the lightest. The letter after the number indicates the kind of tone you can expect from the colour;
1 = Black
N = Natural (basic black, brown & blonde shades)
Our most recent and contemporary 5 shades; 9.31 Sandy Blonde, 7.7 Teide Brown, 7.46 Arizona Copper, 6.66 Fireland and 2.1 Blue-Black use a slightly different coding system. The 1st number indicates how dark/light the shade is, the 2nd number indicates the secondary colour used to produce the shade and the 3rd number is a reference to the addition of a ‘splash’ of a third colour.
|1= Ash||3 = Golden||5 = Mahogany||7 = Brown|
|2 = Purple||4 = Copper||6 = Red|
For example, the 7.46 is the same depth of tone as a 7N or a 7G, but the additional colours are copper, with a hint of red.
Choosing a shade:
Darker - Can go as dark as you like. If you are undecided between 2 colours, go for the lighter shade as it is easier to go darker if the shade isn’t exactly right, than to try and colour lighter.
Lighter – Naturtint can only lighten hair by one or two shades, e.g. if person’s hair colour is a 6N, then you should not use a colourant lighter than an 8N, 8C or 8G. If you have very grey or white hair, it is best to avoid 10N & 10A (unless mixed with other colours) as they are too light to produce a significant colour change.
Covering Grey – Very resistant grey will require 40 minutes development time and the ‘Natural’ colours are usually the most suitable. Brighter tones such as the Mahogany and Copper tones should be mixed with a Natural tone if applied to grey or white hair. Lighter tones can look more flattering against our skin tone as we age, so don’t be afraid to go a shade lighter than your natural colour once was.
Ash Tones – Shouldn’t generally be used on their own unless you want to tone down hair colour i.e. if a light shade has gone too yellow, orange, brassy, golden, reddish. Otherwise they should be used as “mixer” tone to prevent these unwanted warm tones.
Common Blends - When using ‘Natural’ shades, if you tend to go too red, golden, brassy, yellow then blend in an ‘Ash’ colour. For example with 6N, 7N, 8N use 8A or with 9N or 10N, use 10A. To tone down Mahogany (4M, 5M and 7M) colours or if you are using these shades on grey hair, mix with similar number of a Natural colour. To mellow Coppers (5C, 7C and 8C) or if you are using these shades on grey hair, mix with similar number of a ‘Natural’ colour.
